First time for everything

There have been many firsts for our family within the past two months. Starting in November, I was put on bed rest with Owen due to high blood pressure. This was the first time I was ever told to lay in bed and I hated every minute of it. Anyone who knows me knows how much I love to sleep, but when you are told to stay in bed it is not as fun. Towards the end of November, I was done being pregnant and started feeling very uncomfortable. We were ready for Owen to make his arrival any day.

Then on Monday, December 3, Dennis and I woke up for work just like we did every week day morning. We were sitting at the table eating breakfast and I felt as though my water had broken. I quickly called my mom who told me to call Labor and Delivery. I called L&D and they told me to come in and be checked. **At this point Dennis and I were freaking out thinking this was it**. I know I had said earlier we were ready for Owen to come, but is any first time parent truly "ready??" So we quickly grabbed our bags and car seat and off to the hospital we went. After we got checked in, the nurse checked to see if my water had broken. It hadn't so I was pretty sure at that point we would be sent home. But then my blood pressure was taken....oh man was it high. My OB doctor was already at the hospital delivering another baby. She came in around 6:30 and said that she was going to induce me because of my blood pressure. At this point, I had a million emotions but I was so excited...not knowing what was about to come. At 8:00 am they started the pitocin. We waited...and waited....and waited...and waited...and waited. All day long we waited.

Very little progress was made and at about 6 pm, they talked to me about turning off the pitocin and starting it again the next day. They told me this could be a long progress and it could take a couple days before Owen made his arrival. Well wouldn't you know progress was starting to be made from there. However, we continued to wait and wait and wait. Finally at about 2:30 am we were ready to begin pushing. I will not go into detail there, but after an hour and a half, Owen did not make an appearance. At that point the doctor talked to me about a c-section and I had no objections to it. I went to the hospital with no birth plan because I knew I had no control over the circumstances and what would happen. All I cared about was Owen getting here safely and me staying comfortable :). So at about 4 am I was in the operating room and at 4:33 am, Owen Michael Albers was born. He was PERFECT! Oh man was he perfect. 7 lbs 5 oz, 21 inches long with a full head of black hair.

Since then there have been many firsts. However, Owen has brought so much joy to many peoples lives but most of all he has completed his mother and father's life. We love him so much.
